Trade Justice Video Transcript
It's really important that we do this work of slowing down, to connect to the
vision, to the big picture vision that we're reaching for, that we're aiming for.
A dream, no it's a reality.
A dreamy holographic image swirls on screen.
TV static as transition.
Title card reads: "Imaginings of a Feminist Economic Transformation & Trade Justice"
with the Oxfam logo in the corner.

Speaker #1:
It's really critical actually, right now at this juncture, to reimagine what trade
could look like.
Because the current, sort of model that we have, has become so absolute. And you
know, the sense that there is no alternative to it is one that I think a lot of
policymakers feel is the case, but absolutely is not the case.
Zoom call with a woman on screen speaking.
Montage of participants making different gestures like flapping their arms, holding
up their biceps in a show of strength and resilience, raising their eyebrows,
holding up a peace sign and hugging oneself.
Speaker #2:
Feminist economics is an analysis of power. We have to be critical, and I think in that way, feminist economic analysis is inherently activist, because you're looking to change power dynamics and structural inequalities, and not just taking them as given.
Visual:Montage continues.
Speaker #2:
Oftentimes I think for all of us it can be really easy to get bogged down and frustrated in what's not working. So, I think this is a beautiful opportunity for us to open up our minds and our hearts to think about what we want to create.
Visual:Return to Zoom call of another woman speaking on screen.
Facilitator:
So we're going to take a little journey.
Visual:The facilitator speaks to the camera.
Facilitator:
Now before returning to the present, take a few moments to complete your visit to the future, writing down anything you want to remember.
Visual:
Screen recording of a Google Jamboard with the title: Visions: the highlights of
what you saw. Facilitator clicks through four identical pages with different
sub-headings: Group 1, Group 2, Group 3, and Group 4.
Screen recording of Google Jamboard with someone typing onto various sticky notes.
These read: Paid caregiving, cooperation, collaboration, corporate accountability,
focus on local.
Facilitator:
The next step to our visioning journey is to create a collective picture of what we saw, heard and felt.
Visual:Facilitator speaks to the camera.
Speaker #3:
We chose the medium of rap, folks. The future is here, yo. No more devotion to multinationals and their effing economy. Children have schools and technology. Paid caregiving is central, no more a notion, but a reality.
Visual:Montage of artwork presentations. The first clip depicts a participant holding up a page of doodles to the camera. The second is a screen recording of a digital collage created by participants. It includes images of people holding hands, sitting at a communal table, safety signs, trees, an ear with a megaphone, and a scale.
Speaker #1:
Hey, this is a time when we see small holder farmers flourishing, trading locally.
Channeling divine energies into seeds and earth that sustain and nourish the blood.
These lands are filled with love and markets where cutthroat is a word told in the
history books, of a time when competition was a god, but today the children call us
pirates.
Montage continues. Screen recording of the facilitator drawing a heart on a digital
whiteboard. She then searches for an image using the term "love", and inserts a
picture of a book with pages folded to look like a heart.
The final clip pans over the graphic recording, which captures the themes of the
session. There are titles and drawings that follow the themes of the session in
sequential order, including a time machine, a laptop screen, participants singing,
and jot notes from the different issues discussed. It finishes with a drawing of a
pirate with the accompanying text: "We're pirates!"
Fade to black.
Various participants:
Thank you everyone.
Thank you!
Thank you, thank you Rehana, thank you all.
Thank you, thank you all.
The facilitator smiles and waves. Another participant appears on screen waving. Speaker #1 appears on screen and waves.
