Climate Change & Natural Resources
As climate change increasingly threatens people’s lives and livelihoods, advancing a gender-just transition to an inclusive, green economy should be a priority for Canada.
The changes Oxfam wants to see:
The federal government should:
- Support a just transition to a net-zero carbon economy that opens equal opportunities for women, 2SLGBTQ+, Indigenous and racialized people to access green jobs and contribute to building an inclusive, climate-resilient society.
- Mitigate climate change through rapid and deep cuts to emissions, and develop a national climate adaptation plan that addresses the social inequalities that limit some people’s ability to cope with climate-related risks and disasters.
- Support low- and middle-income countries’ efforts to adapt to climate change and provide targeted funding for women’s rights organizations pursuing feminist climate action.
Questions to ask candidates in your riding:
- What steps will your party take to ensure that a just transition to a net-zero carbon economy includes women, 2SLGBTQ+, Indigenous and racialized people?
- What measures will your party take to help Canadians cope with, and adapt to, climate change?
- Will your party increase funding to support developing countries’ efforts to adapt to climate change, and commit to ending funding for new fossil fuel projects abroad?
