"What inspires me about Oxfam is its approach to human rights, development and poverty reduction based on fundamental change. Also, I believe Oxfam’s unique approach to women’s right and equality and recognition of women’s major role in food production, is a just approach to eradicating poverty and achieving human rights."

"In addition to my passion for visual arts, languages, a BA in French language and translation, I am keen about politics. All my life, I have been politically active and believe in collective action to improve the quality of life of people around the world. After immigrating to Canada, I studied international relations and political science at the University of British Columbia and soon after I did my master of arts in international affairs, conflict analysis and conflict resolution, at Carleton University.

Poverty and human rights are two major issues that have always captured my attention and motivated me to work with different non-profit organizations and people from diverse backgrounds. I have known about Oxfam and its work around the world for many years. What inspires me about Oxfam is its approach to human rights, development and poverty reduction based on fundamental change. Also, I believe Oxfam’s unique approach to women’s right and equality and recognition of women’s major role in food production, is a just approach to eradicating poverty and achieving human rights.

Last year, I had the chance to start an internship with Oxfam, which has been one of the most fruitful and exciting experiences that I have had. I worked on various projects, such as the ‘We Can Campaign’ change makers interview and story writing, which gave me the opportunity to know some of Oxfam’s wonderful volunteers and the impact of their activities in Canada and around the world. Also, I worked on developing and writing the Advocacy and Outreach Committee (AOC) guidelines and some other projects that are still going on. Throughout my internship and volunteer experience with Oxfam, I gained lots of valuable experiences regarding policy and outreach, event preparation, fundraising and various administrative activities. At the same time, I have had the opportunity to work with a group of knowledgeable, talented and dedicated staff and volunteers who inspired me in many ways and strengthen my belief that people together have the power to make meaningful changes in theirs lives.

Being part of an organization that works to improve the quality of life of underprivileged and be a voice for them is very fulfilling and fits very well with my personal goals and ideas. Talking about Oxfam’s objectives, approaches and numerous activities around the world is very important. In particular, I would like to promote Oxfam’s view about the importance of women’s right in ending global poverty and promoting social justice for all. I also believe that being actively engaged in demanding policy makers to endorse policies that aim to improve the livelihood of poor and underprivileged and promote social justice in Canada and around the world is another important step that Oxfam takes."
