Oxfam welcomes launch of international assistance review consultations

May 18, 2016

In response to the launch of the international assistance review consultations, Julie Delahanty, Oxfam Canada’s Executive Director, said:

“Oxfam welcomes the news that the Government of Canada will consult and engage with Canadians and civil society in determining Canada’s aid priorities.”

“Today’s announcement by the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, demonstrates Canada’s commitment to ensure that our international assistance policy and funding framework better responds to the challenges and opportunities of the new global context.”

“In particular, we applaud the special emphasis these review consultations will place on women and girls and applying a feminist lens to  international assistance activities. We know from our work in communities across the world that ending poverty must begin with women’s rights,” Delahanty added.

“We are  excited to contribute to this process, and we strongly encourage others to do so.”
