Oxfam Canada on the 2011 Federal Budget

Oxfam Canada Policy Coordinator Mark Fried, on the 2011 Federal Budget.

March 23, 2011

On the freeze on aid spending, Oxfam Policy Coordinator Mark Fried said:

“We shouldn’t be solving our deficit on the backs of the world’s most vulnerable people. Could we not make do with 64 fighter jets instead of 65, and lend a hand to the poorest?”

On Canada’s commitment to climate financing, Fried said:

“Mr. Flaherty said nothing about Canada’s $400 million commitment to help communities overseas adapt to climate change. Let’s hope that does not mean it will be poached from CIDA, whose spending is already strapped and frozen.”
